How to Find Your Ring Size

Fortunately, there are several different methods for both men and women to find their correct ring size. If you already have a ring, there are a couple of different methods you can use, and likewise, there are a couple of different methods if you don't have a ring yet.

Measuring Ring Size Without a Ring

Let's start with the scenario where you don't have a ring yet. In this case, the goal is to measure the circumference of your finger, which can be done in several ways. Before you start the methods, however, it's important to ensure that your finger has the right temperature.

It might sound strange, but if your finger is too warm, it may be slightly swollen, and if it's very cold, it may be smaller than usual. Therefore, you can quickly end up with the wrong ring size if you're not mindful of this.

Method 1: Measuring Strips

The easiest way, if you don't have a ring yet, is to buy measuring strips. They cost next to nothing, are super easy to use, and provide accurate results. Our measuring strips don't lock, so they can be used again and again.

Method 2: Paper, scissors, pencil, and ruler

A nice easy method that only requires items most people already have at home.

This method is demonstrated in the video below:

Step 1: Cut a 10 cm long paper strip with roughly the same width as the desired ring.

Step 2: Choose the finger on which the ring will be worn and wrap the strip around the finger so that it fits relatively tightly.

Step 3: Find the point where the paper overlaps and make a thin line. You can preferably get someone else to help you with this.

Step 4: Measure with a ruler how far it is from the end of the strip to the line. If it's 56 mm, then you need a size 56. It's a good idea to measure twice to be completely sure.

Method 3: String or sewing thread

Another easy method, which also only requires items most people already have, is this method where you need string or sewing thread.

Step 1: Take your string or sewing thread and wrap it twice around your finger. It shouldn't be tight, but a little like you want your ring to fit.

Step 2: Mark your string or sewing thread where it overlaps with a marker or pen.

Step 3: Unfold the string or sewing thread, and measure the distance between the two marks. If the distance is 56 mm, you'll need a ring size 56.

Measuring Ring Size With a Ring

If you already have a ring but can't remember its size, you can of course also use it to find your correct ring size. Here are also a couple of different methods you can use.

Method 1: Ruler or caliper If you have a caliper, or just a regular ruler, you can use it to measure the inside diameter of your current ring. However, pay attention to what type of ring you're measuring. If it's a wide ring, it has a larger surface area on your finger and cannot be directly converted in size, as wide rings often require you to go up a size. Once you have found the inside diameter, you need to multiply that number by Pi (3.141592) to find your ring size. If your current ring has an inside diameter of 16.9 mm, the calculation would be 16.9 X 3.141592 = 53.09. So you would need a size 53 in ring size.

Method 4: Paper, scissors, pencil, and ruler

You can also use paper, scissors, pencil, and ruler for the measurement if you already have a ring. Here you can use it to measure the inside circumference.

Step 1: Cut a piece of paper about 3 x 8 cm.

Step 2: Gently fold this small piece of paper into a roll and place it in the ring. Then cut a notch in the middle of the overlap.

Step 3: Then unfold the paper and fold the ends together. Then measure the distance between the two folds, and you have your ring size.
